Coffin Bay & Surrounds

Coffin Bay Scuba Co can take you on a journey to the secret underwater world of the bay, as well as offering lessons and dive certification. Did we mention the food? There are some great dining options in town, and to really immerse yourself in the natural environment book with Yarnabala. Their events include nature walks, fine dining and, often, live music. Add in the spectacular Coffin Bay National Park to all of this, and you’ve got memories to last a lifetime.

A little further afield than Coffin Bay you’ll find a plethora of coastal camps and pristine beaches with dolphins playing in the waves. Check out the camping page for more information. Inland is the farming hub of Cummins, where the paddocks often dazzle with yellow canola in the spring. Take a drive off the main highway here and you’ll find beautiful views of rolling paddocks, though please remember not to walk through any crops!

This is probably the reason you’ve heard of this place – whether you’ve eaten them at restaurants or seen the classic images of guests in waders tasting oysters fresh from the ocean, they’re an absolute must while you’re here. You’ll have fun even if you’re not an oyster lover! Take a tour with Oyster HQ and walk out into the water to shuck oysters fresh from the ocean, with a glass of wine in hand. Or join Experience Coffin Bay on their boat to visit the oyster racks out in the bay and get both oysters and a scenic view – also with a glass of wine in hand! On land you can dine at Oyster HQ, grab oysters from their iconic oyster vending machine, or stop by 1802 Oyster Bar for a delicious seafood meal. Crayfish sliders, anyone?

The Coffin Bay National Park has some of the best-known views on the Eyre Peninsula, and is incredibly popular for its soft sandy beaches, abundant wildlife, great fishing and towering dunes. Walk along the white sands of Almonta Beach, enjoy a bush picnic and kayak at Yangie Bay, breathe in the fresh salty air overlooking Point Avoid and Golden Island Lookout and climb the dunes near Gunyah Beach, the whole while looking out for kangaroos, emus and dolphins. Trust us, you can stay a while here! There are plenty of campgrounds to choose from if you’re staying overnight, some of which are 2WD accessible.
