With a fantastic waterpark right by the water, it's the perfect spot for kids to cool off and play while parents relax nearby. For something a little quieter, nearby Lucky Bay offers beachfront shacks for rent and a wonderfully laid-back coastal feel. In Cowell itself, you'll find plenty to enjoy โ from sampling delicious local oysters (pick some up straight from the sheds) to browsing unique jewellery crafted from locally sourced jade. Take a stroll along the peaceful mangrove boardwalk, sail into the marina if you're arriving by water, or head out to the ever-popular camping spots and beaches at Port Gibbon and Point Gibbon. Make a splash at the waterpark
The foreshore has become a firm favourite in Cowell, drawing locals and visitors alike to its much-loved water playground, complete with a waterslide and splashpad that are free to use and a big hit over the warmer months. The adjacent swimming area is perfect for a dip, while in the cooler months there's still plenty to enjoy, including a basketball court, bouncy pillow, BBQ and picnic facilities, and the jetty as a prime fishing spot. If you're up for some 4WD adventure, you can access Middle Camp Self 4WD Track for some amazing scenery and views over Franklin Harbour. When it's time to refuel, you're just a short stroll from local pubs, the Lunch Room, Sassys Cafe, the iconic Fish Box Kiosk, and the Pie Man, where carefully crafted pastries tend to fly out the door.
Enjoy beachfront camping
Point Gibbon is roughly a 20-minute drive from Cowell and is a popular camping destination for its beachside views, sand dunes and the chance to spot dolphins and sea lions from your campsite. Pack the sandboard and scoot down the dunes or try your luck fishing from the shore.
