Lake Gilles Conservation Park is made up of sparse and semi-arid mallee landscape. The saline lake surrounded by low sandy rises, gypsum dunes, and isolated stony hills provide a peaceful environment to watch the park's birdlife.

The Eyre Highway passes through the park with 2WD vehicle access to the lake, but please be aware the northern area adjacent to Lake Gilles is accessible only by 4WD.

Self sufficient bush camping (with no facilities) is allowed in the park. Camping is free, with no online bookings required.
